Certificate in Python Programming
Start at what a variable is. Finish writing real programs.
This Python course runs from a first variable to a database queried from code you wrote, with collections before functions and four real projects along the way.
Overview
What this Python course covers
Seventeen modules, and how they are arranged is the point. This Python course teaches collections before functions, because lists and dictionaries are what make a function worth writing, and it puts a fifteen-part banking project before the object-oriented module so classes arrive as the answer to a problem you have already had.
You start at what a variable is and work through conditionals, loops, collections, functions, string methods and files, then four real projects including a cipher and a monitoring system. Classes, generators, CSV handling and a SQLite database queried with parameters close it out. You finish able to read a traceback down to the line that is actually wrong and write programs that do real work.

Requirements
Course requirements
- Python 3, a currently supported release, installed on your own machine rather than an online editor.
- A free editor, plus Jupyter for the early modules, which is the right tool for trying five variations of one line.
- No prior programming. The course starts at what a variable is, and does not stay there long.
- Somewhere to keep your code, ideally a git repository, because later projects build on earlier ones.

FAQ
Common questions about the Python course
Is this Python course good for complete beginners?
Yes. It starts at what a variable is and assumes no prior programming whatsoever. The pace does pick up: by module 13 you are building a fifteen-part banking system. That climb is deliberate, because the projects are where the language stops being syntax and starts being something you can actually use.
Does the Python course cover Flask or Django?
No. This is the language course, and web frameworks are not in it. Flask lives in the Advanced Certificate in Python Programming, which expects this course first. Learning the language properly before a framework is the right order, because a framework you do not understand underneath is a framework you cannot debug.
How long does it take to learn Python with this course?
There are 118 lessons across 17 modules, and the honest answer depends on the projects. Concept lessons are short. The banking system is fifteen parts and will take considerably longer than its runtime suggests, because you are building it rather than watching. It is self-paced, so most people take a few months alongside a job.
Do I need to install Python, or can I use an online editor?
Install it. The early material runs in Jupyter notebooks and the projects run in a normal editor, and the file handling, CSV and SQLite modules all read and write real files on your own disk. An online editor will fail you at exactly the point the course gets interesting.
Should I learn Python or Java first?
Take Python if you want to be writing useful programs soonest. It says less per line and the same syntax carries into automation, data work and scripting. Java is stricter and more verbose, which teaches you a different kind of discipline and dominates enterprise work. Both certificates are in this subscription, so the order is genuinely yours.
What can I actually build after this Python course?
Scripts and command-line programs that do real work: a cipher, a monitoring tool, a fifteen-part banking system, and programs that read and write CSV files and query a SQLite database. That covers a large share of what Python is used for day to day, especially in automation and data handling roles.
Is there a Python certification at the end?
Yes, a certificate of completion carrying a verification code anyone can check on the site. Each module ends with a quiz at a 75% pass mark that never blocks progress, and a twenty-question final exam opens once everything is complete. The four projects are what you show people, and the certificate is what confirms you finished.
