Do I need to buy the software?
Updated Aug 2026 · 2 min read
In most cases, yes. Your subscription covers the teaching, not licenses for other companies' products. What that costs depends entirely on the course.
How it works out in practice
- Some courses use genuinely free tools. Blender and Godot, for example, cost nothing to download and use, forever.
- Some use paid tools that offer a free trial. A trial covers a lot of a course, though trials have limits worth knowing about (some will not reopen a project you saved earlier).
- Some need an entry-level paid plan. Where that is true, the course says so up front rather than halfway through.
Where to check before you start
- Every course page lists what you need under requirements.
- The first lesson of every course is a written overview that names the exact software and version, and says what you need.
- The early lessons walk through installation and setup, so you are not guessing.
Check the requirements before you start, especially for subscription software. A trial that expires halfway through a module is a frustrating way to learn.
